How to Make an AI Live Stream (24/7 Channel Setup Guide)

Start with an approved video library and a reliable playback loop. Add continuous generation only after the channel can stay on air without it.

Before you start

You need a channel concept, a video-generation workflow, storage for approved clips, an encoder such as OBS Studio or FFmpeg, a stable connection, and a destination account with live streaming enabled. Local model inference and stream encoding are separate workloads; plan capacity for both if they share a machine.

This guide uses scheduled library playback as the starting architecture: generate → review → store → play out → encode → publish. A stream is delivered live even when its programming was produced in advance.

01 / FORMAT

Define a repeatable program

Write a one-paragraph channel brief: who it is for, what they will see, how long each segment lasts, and how often the material changes. A predictable format makes the production queue and playlist easier to maintain.

Decide how much repetition is acceptable. Choose a target library duration and a daily refill target. Reserve 1,440 new minutes per day for the case where every broadcast second truly must be newly generated.

Cost point: Planning, writing, editing time, and your chosen volume of new video. The daily refill target drives recurring generation spend.
02 / GENERATION

Choose the provider and run a small batch

Select a provider and supported resolution. For MiniMax H3 Max, test fal's generation workflow; the official and OpenRouter options in this calculator represent H3. Local deployment represents the open-weight H3 base and requires suitable hardware.

Create a short shot list with consistent subject descriptions, framing, movement, and audio direction. Generate a sample batch, then record both attempted and approved durations. Keep API credentials on the machine or service that performs generation; never put them into a public site or stream overlay.

Cost point: Billable output duration, rounded clip units where applicable, paid retries, and possible input-material fees. Local inference adds GPU ownership, power, and depreciation costs.
03 / REVIEW & STORE

Build the approved library

Review every clip for visual defects, continuity, audio quality, and whether it fits the program. For factual material, check the underlying claims. Use material you have permission to publish, and follow the destination platform's disclosure requirements where they apply.

Export accepted clips to a dedicated folder. Give each a stable filename and record its duration, aspect ratio, frame rate, and audio settings in a manifest. Keep working files and failed generations outside the playback folder. Back up the manifest and approved masters.

Cost point: One-time library generation, review and editing, storage, and backups. Rejected paid takes belong in the production budget even when they never air.
04 / PLAYOUT

Create a playlist that can run continuously

Standardize the files to a consistent resolution, frame rate, codec, and audio layout, then arrange them into program blocks. Repeat those blocks to cover the schedule. Check transitions, audio levels, and whether clips end cleanly.

In OBS, add a Media Source, choose your prepared program file, and enable Loop. For several files, install a compatible VLC build, add a VLC Video source, populate its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. The OBS media-source guide explains these settings. With FFmpeg, prepare a compatible file or playlist and a controlled repeating input. Test locally before connecting either encoder to a public destination.

Keep a short approved fallback program available. Add new material to a staging folder and only move it into the next playlist after it passes review. Do not let a half-written output file become the next on-air clip.

Cost point: Playback and encoding compute, storage reads, electricity, and the work of scheduling and quality control.
05 / ENCODER & DESTINATION

Connect the encoder to a live platform

Enable live access on the destination account. In its live dashboard, create the stream and obtain the ingest URL and stream key. In the encoder's streaming settings, select the service or enter its custom destination. Keep the key private.

Use the platform's documented ingest requirements to choose the codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval. Verify that your upload connection and encoder can sustain those settings. Specific requirements vary by destination, so do not copy an unrelated channel's settings blindly.

Run a private or unlisted test if the platform supports one. Check the actual viewer-side player for picture, sound, transitions, dropped frames, and recovery after reconnecting. Confirm the channel title, description, visibility, and any required AI disclosure before publishing.

Cost point: Uplink bandwidth, a continuously running host, any streaming or distribution plan, and setup time. Platform approval or connected-TV placement may be a separate process.
06 / OPERATIONS

Monitor the channel and add daily refills

Track whether the encoder is connected, whether the audience player is advancing, how much approved content remains, and whether disk space is running low. A running process alone does not prove that viewers can see the stream.

Configure automatic restart and reconnect behavior for the encoder. Test recovery from an unavailable clip and a lost connection. Keep logs and a known-good fallback playlist so a generation outage does not immediately interrupt the broadcast.

Generate and review refills on a daily schedule. If you later add prompt-driven live generation, place a queue and review step ahead of playout, impose spending limits, and keep enough buffered material to handle generation delays.

Cost point: Recurring refill generation, monitoring, maintenance, moderation, storage growth, and incident recovery.
07 / BUDGET CHECK

Separate the launch bill from the running bill

Record the initial approved library and its actual production spend. For each month, track newly generated material, paid failed attempts, delivery services, hardware, and operating time. Keep introductory discounts separate from the normal ongoing rate.

Use the calculator's library mode for the initial library plus daily refills, or fresh-generation mode for daily production alone. The monthly comparison uses your stated generation volumes; it does not imply that repeated footage is as fresh as newly generated programming.

Cost point: One-time construction + recurring generation + recurring operations. Only sourced model-generation charges are calculated on this site.
